Next Sunday is the 20th anniversary of the Gatorade Dunk. So with the dunkers, the New York Giants, playing the dunkee, Bill Parcells and the Dallas Cowboys this week, we're flashing back to the moment. Post a comment recounting a moment in which you were part of or witnessed a "dunking." Also, share your view on whether or not you think this folk ritual should be part of the game or not.
Check out this Michael Jordan Gatorade File Audio. Thanks to the folks at http://www.deadspin.com/ who pointed out this raw file --http://wizznutzz.com/images/jordanmp3.mp3-- of Michael Jordan at a recording studio giving his reads for a Gatorade commercial. Enjoy!

yeah i think that the dunk should be apart of sports because its always been a ritual and it should be contiuned on forever in sports as long as gatorade is around
funny story with the dunk i went to my little cousin football game and his team one the championship and they went to dunk the gatorade cooler on the coach and they were soo small that they dropped the cooler on the floor and spilt it everywhere

Two years ago, when I was playing in a basketball game, a couple of the players "dunked" my coach. At first, I didn't realize it was happening until I heard the gatorade hit the ground. I think this is a great tradition and there is nothing wrong with it.

I never really knew that it was so "popular" but I have seen one. I didnt know how it was started or any history behind "the dunk" but i've alwasy thought it was cool. When I was younger I used to go to my dads baseball games and a couple of time his team was in the playoffs. The team has always been together and always had the same players and coach so they got to know each other. At the end of his season when they won there playoff game, they went up and "dunked" their coach. I thought it was pretty cool.

I never saw someone throw a Gatorade bucket on a coach! It sounds like it would be intresting. It is following a long traditon to both the winning team and coach's.

I have been in the action of "The Dunk." At the end of one of my softball games, we won the county championship and me and the girls on my team surprisingly picked up the gatorade cooler and dumped it all over our coache's head. I was a fun experience. :)

in soccer we dunked one of the players after a game we won. He played really good and was the start of the game and i guess thats why we dunked him. Its good for sports because it is a good way of celebrating a victory.

I encountered a "Dunk" at a smithtown football game two years ago. The team was excited they had finally won a game and the coaches were drunched. I believe that dunking at sports events is part of the hole celebration of victory. It gives the fans something to look foward to and excited for.

I have never experienced a gatorade dunk on a coach. I know what a gatorde dunk is, i think they should only do it if they have a big tourtement of finals game to show your victory. Also it would be a lot of fun because you coach will never suspect a thing. Hopefully i will experience one by the end of high school.

I think this is a great idea, this is tradition, a well deserved delight to the coach. When he has been having a stressed out game and the team comes back for the win, a player from the team cool the coach off as a sign of celabration, I think this tradition is great and if the coach is fine with that then there is nothing wrong with it. I think this is a great way to celebrate, and everyone enjoys it. This may be supersious but that is fine, it helps the team look foward more to a win.

I have never seen one in real life. i think that the dunk should deffinitly be part of the game because it is fun to watch and it has been a tradition for so long. the football players have fun doing.

I have not witnessed a "dunking" in real life, but have seen it plenty of times while watching big games on television. Almost every NFL playoff game ends with one, as does the college bowl games. You always see the coach get hit.
I believe that it is great for sports. Many people love to see it and it adds another exciting element to the game. It a tradition like no other and will go on to the end of time.

I think the Gatorade dunking is a good tradition in sports because it celebrates a win in a fun way in that it's entertaining to see a bunch of football players dump a whole cooler full of sports drink onto their coach after a big win. I believe a few years ago when I went to Ireland, I went to a hurling game and I remember they had dunked a cooler of Lucozade.

I witnessed a dunking on T.V. after one Super Bowl game. The game was the Eagles vs. the Patriots, and the Patriots won. Once the game was over, or with a coupel of seconds left, a coupel of the Patriots lifted up the Gatorade cooler and dumped it on the coach. I think that the dunk should be part of the game. I think that it is a tradition and it should be continued. it has been going on for 20 years now, and I don't think that there is an reason to stop it now. I think that teams should be able to celebrate however they want to, and if they so choose, they should be able to dump the Gatorade on their coach. Some teams may even look foward to this tradition, and it may motivate them.

I've seen a dunking on television. I witnessed this during the past Superbowl when the coach of the New England Patriots became a dunkee. I think that it is a funny tradition, and that it should occur in the NFL every year, after a big victory. Plus it helps out the Gatorade company, sort of like a sponsor.

I think this is a great tradition. I believe it is a good way to cool ur coach off after a game. This is a great way to celebrate the win.

I remember when we had a soccer tordment in Pennslyvinia, we were put into the wrong division and we were playing with older teams. We were all upset and nervious to play them becuse "they were older." We were accuelly more mad with our coach for putting us into the division. But we went into the first game with a positive attitude and high spirts and united together as we can do it, and came out with a 3-0 win. Our spirits were high that day and went into the secound game with the same attatitude. We then won the secound game with a 2-1 win. That night we were all in good moods and stayed together as a team and supported one another. We ened up making it to the finals. It was a hard game but we came out with the win and we all talked aobut it the night befor that if we won we were going to get back at our coach some how. So we did pour the gatorade cooler on him for putting us throguht that trama even thoguht we won.
I think that the gatorade tradition is a tradition and should be carried out thought out sports. It is a fun thing and feels good to get the one person who has put you throught tourtcher the whole season. The one you probally hated the most but in the end the outcomes are what u want them to be. So why not put them throught 30secounds of tourtcher when they put you through a whole season of it? .. well i mean for a goood cause..

i think the dunk should be a part of sports because it is a way of honnoring or appriciating the coach(s). This year at the end of our undefeated JV football season we drenched our coaches. They were drenched from head to toe with cold water. They laughed and we celebrated. Drenching the coaches has been a tradition every year undefeated or not.

I have never actually witnessed a "dunk" but I do think that it is a tradition and should not be changed. It is something that i hope will go on for as long as football does because without it, it will just seem a little bit empty at the end of a game.
I have nevr seen the player the players dump Gatorade on there coaches. I think it is a great tridition. I would want to go to a game and see it happen. I think that it is a really good way to get revenge on your coach after a game has ended. I know that I would want want to.

The first time I ever saw a dunk was at my brothers football game about 10 years ago. The had the won his P.A.L. league chanpionship when he was playing in Central Islip. I do think it is good to do this because i think it is a way to celebrate the achievement of thier goal.

In soccer my school soccer team dunked one of my teamates after a soccer game. When I saw the super bowl last year I saw Bill Belichech get dunked after the win.
I have never seen a dunk before, but have heard about it and have seen pictures of coaches getting the dunk. I think that the dunk is a great thing and it should stay inthe football tradition and go on for as long as it could. The dunk it a sign of thanking the man who brought you all the way here.

The dunking tradtion has reached all ages from the feilds of the NFL's super bowl to my home in Smithtown,Ny on the pee wee fields of Browns road.As a boy playing for a losing team had gotten old but durning one magical season our team had a perfect season and won our league and as this was such a big thing we dumped the gatorade bucket on my coach and all though it was a cold day in november he didnt mind much it was all part of the game. I have never witnessed a Gatorade Dunk before but i have seen pictures before. I think that the dunk is the a tradition and should be carried on forever. The Gatorade dunk has been a tradition for about 20 years now. The Gatorade has been a big part of football and other sports. If you take away the dunk your taking away part fo the game.

Gatorade is it in you? the dunk, a 20 year old tradition that should continue to surprise coaches and spectators alike with a dunk after every winning game.
