Show Me The Money
Jerry Maguire is a man who knows the score. As a top agent at Sports Management International, Jerry is unquestionably master of his universe. Trouble is, Jerry's mind, mouth and soul are usually on automatic pilot. A week after spontaneously writing a stirring, visionary mission statement for SMI entitled The Things We Think And Do Not Say: The Future of Our Business, he's unceremoniously fired. Stripped of his job and a good measure of his identity, the tenacious but hanging-by-a-thread Jerry is forced to start from scratch. He's joined on his journey to redemption by two unlikely allies: Rod Tidwell, a second-tier wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals; and Dorothy Boyd, a wistful 26-year-old single mother who departs her accountancy position with SMI for a very uncertain future with her new boss.

It is important to go to college because going to college is the beginning of your adult life. Also, you learn to become more independant as a person and grow as an individual in a more free environment. A final reason for going to college, is acquiring more intelect and knowledge.
ReplyDeleteIn the sports business industry I don't think there is room to have ethics. I feel it should be business only and money is what you should strive for, not for friendship. Although in the film Jerry Maguire did suceed, but that is just a movie. In any business you can't have ethics, its just business.

Ethics are something that are valued, but you cant always be tied down by ethics in business, you have to do whatever it takes to get it done, sports business or other business, it doesnt matter, money fuels business, ethics and money don't always mix, you have to do what it takes to get the job done and get the paycheck.

jerry is a very good agent. he is determined to not only make as much money as possible, but also to keep his client happy and give him the best deal possible. he treats the client like a friend instead of a way to get money.

Even though ethics is the right thing to do and is moraly right to stay afloat and do well in the field of sports buisness you have to some times lie and do the unethical thing. In buisness time is money and to be able to take control of 80 sport players will make you the money rather than haveing one agent and working with them and only get paid by that one person. unfortanuly we live in a world of greed so something like ethics to take over being non ethic in the sports world is rare and limited, because of the risks of keeping your buisness alive.
ReplyDeleteYes, there is room for ethics in the techno-global world. Everyone can be nice, not everyone has to be like Jerry Maguire in the begining. He was mean, and dint care, nbut now he got into it and knows how to treat people, and get work done nicely. We deffinitly have room for ethics. If noone can be like Jerry maguire after his breakdown, this world is messed up.

Jerry is a great and trustworthy sports client. I doesn't only care about the amount of money being made, but he cares about making sure his clients get the best deal possible. Jerry does not treat them as a client, but as a friend. Ethics are importent to Jerry, not just making money.

Although there are many people who feel that there is no room for ethics in the technologically advanced world that we live in, I feel that there is always room for ethics. People will become more respected when they use proper ethics. By treating others with respect, it will give yourself a better image and although at the time it may not help, in the long run, there will be an unlimited amount of benefits. People are getting to absorbed with money and less worried about the feeling of the people that they are working with.

In buisness and sports, there is room for ethics because as an agent you need to express your views and feelings about a topic. Jerry proves that ethics can be in sports and management as he works for a huge company, and still states what he feels. Room for ehtics is needed in sports in order to have a strong relationship between the agent and the company.

i belive jerry is a great sports agent.when jerry lost every body he had, he helped one man who he wanted to be succesful to make a contract of 11 million dollars and that proves jerry is a trustworthy agent.

ReplyDeleteI think that there should be ethnics within the sports business industry. Everyone should have good ethics within the business industry. Ethics shoudn't be your top priority, but you should have some sort of friendship with your clients.
ReplyDeleteSteve P
I do believe that there is room for ethics in the sports buisness industry because everybody has an opinion and they are allowed to express it. The way Jerry Magiure expressed his moral ethics may not have been the way to do it because the way his buisness was ran, his ethics weren't combatable with the guidlines of a sports agent. Jerry decided to express his opinions and got fired. Even though Jerry got fired, I stil believe that ethics should be allowed in the sports buisness industry and i still want to be a sports agent.

Its kind of hard to say if there is room for ethics in the sports agency today. Without ethics people can get bad reputationsan dont get clients. With ethics people will not look at you as a buisness man but more of a likeable friendly person and you would probabley get better quality jobs.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that there is room for the ethics within the Sports Business industry because today money is such a major issue. Some poeple dont think about what is right for them when money is conversation some people just think about the money they are going to to be making. But I dont think tyhat it right how the world works today as far as the money and the ethics.

I think there is room for ethics in the sports industry becasue if the player and his manager have a good relationship the agent will try harder to get the player what he wants. Also if a player likes his agent he would enjoy his job more and give 110% effort.

ReplyDeleteI think that there is room for ethics. people need to be able to have their own oppinion on things. when people are working with sports they have to be able to do what they have to do to get their work dont

Yes, there is room for ethics within the sports business industry. There will be other people who beleive in your ethics and ideas. Those people will help you in your business. There is already a sports agency company that does this. It is a baseball agency called Sosnik and Cobbe. Sosnik and Cobbe follow the policy where they treat all of their players like family. They become close to them. They are successful. Yes there is room in the sports business industry for ethics.

I think in the world there is room for ethics because there are many athletes out there in the sports business,so agents shouldn't have to fight over players. Every agent should be able to sign at least one player. Agents shouldnt focus on how much money their clients make but on their clients playing ability.
ReplyDeleteBrian D.
Theres is not mostly ethics for a buisness and thats what you need only is some money and thats all you should get, fromwork or however you get your money.
ReplyDeleteKirk I
In the sports business I think thers is always room for ethics. Its just the way the business carries out the way they handle the morals. It also provides better public image for the business which will attract more business causing them to be that much more succesful.
ReplyDeleteSteven H.
even though ethics is the right thing to do, in the sports world today it is imposible to keep your company alive if you do the ethics thing rather than lie and cheat a little. The buisness industry is a hard game to play but once it is understood its just a game to be played. like in the movie jerry maguire his oppenent bob sugar lied and got people to sign with him so he can make money rather than jerry who only had one person to sign with. Even though jerry did the right thing bob still made more money then jerry and thats the way the sports world is today. unfortanaly we live in a world of greed and that is why most sports agents are unethical.

I think there is room for ethics in the sports business industry, but we rarely see it anymore. People in business these days are all for themselves and do everything and anything it takes to be the best. They lie, and are untrustworthy to make be the most successful and wealthy. I believe the best way to go in sports business is to be honest, and attract the athletes. I think you can still make a great living off of that. But other athletes just look for the agent that is making the most money, lieing or not. I hope that more honesty will develop in the field of sports business.

Jerry magurie shows that people can have ethics and still have a succesful business. In my oppinion i dont think that in reality you can still practis ethics and run a good buisness
ReplyDelete~Chris C.~
i think people could try to have ethics, but i dont see it working these days in the world. its more about money, money means more to people in business. why do people make a business, to make money. sure jerry maguire used ethics and suceeded, but a movie is different then reality
ReplyDeleteDan.H
In the Sports Business world i believe that there is room for ethnics, but not to much. In a buisness people put their ethnics aside and concentrate on what they need to do to make money. That is what most business men do, but some concentrate on what is right. There is room for ethics because i believe that being honest and doing what is right can still make business men the same amount of money as liers. Being honest with the athletes may cause the athlete to trust you and atract other atletes to your buisness. Overall I think you can either make more or the same amount of money when you use ethnics in your sports business.
ReplyDeleteNick R.
In the sports buisness industry, sadley there is no room for ethics. The competition is so great that very few times can you witness it. In the movie Jerry Mcguire, he did what was the right thing to do, but ended up losing his job and all but one of his clients. Theres a difference between Hollywood and reality, and many times the reality is harsh. In a way it's like a jungle out there, and people are waiting to jump in front of you and steal your spot.
